Daryl Morey, General Manager of the Houston Rockets, has had the misfortune of tweeting this Sunday. Since, this is the mess between China and the NBA.
On Twitter, the General Manager of the Houston Rockets Daryl Morey has lent his support to the protests against the government of Hong kong. Since, it is the chaos between the NBA and China. Having since deleted the tweet and apologized, the leader sees that the chinese market may suddenly close. The owner of the Houston Rockets, Tilman Fertitta has even responded on Twitter to try to control the fire : “Listen, Daryl Morey does not speak in the name of the Houston Rockets. Our presence in Tokyo is only focused on the promotion of the NBA to the international and we are not a political organization. ”
Unfortunately for the franchise, nothing is. If the NBA has also tried to extinguish the fire by issuing a press release, some have noticed a different tone between the English version and chinese. The press release in chinese condemning most severely Morey. Since the organization has specified that the English version was the official version of the NBA.
The NBA’s original statement:
Recognize that [Morey’s views] have deeply offended many in China, which is unfortunate.
Translation it posted on Chinese social media:
Extremely disappointed in Morey’s inappropriate statement. No doubt he’s severely hurt the feelings of CN fans. pic.twitter.com/pi5PdQq3q9

Among the most popular franchises in China, thanks to Yao Ming, the Houston Rockets, to see the doors of the chinese market close. As well, Tencent, the owner of the rights of the NBA in China on the digital, will simply stop disseminating the meetings of the Rockets. According to the Wall Street Journal, the CBA (Chinese Basketball Association), presided over by Yao Ming, has decided to break all its links with the Rockets… sponsors chinese franchise have put these partnerships on a break.
The apology of the NBA do not pass either with a party of politicians. The organization, like the Houston Rockets find themselves in a complicated situation. According to John Gonzalez, of The Ringer, the employment of Daryl Morey in Rockets would have even been a time in danger. It will be interesting to see how the situation will evolve in the next few days…
